Traditions for School

Clay had his first day of school a couple of weeks ago. Well he actually missed the official first day because he vomited all over the car the day before, so he first day was a Friday. I wasn't worried about Clay because I knew he would love riding the bus to school. I was more worried how I was going to react to it. Surprisingly, I did very well.
As some of you know, Clay is going to the Head Start Program they offer through the school districts. We had him tested for his speech and found that he has some behavioral problems that keep him from learning certain things. It has been about 5 months since than and he has improved so much with his speech and behavior. Now that we new what was going on we as parents could help him in the proper way. So because of those delays he is going to preschool at Orem elementary.

I know he is only in preschool but I thought it would be fun to start some traditions for the first day of school. The first thing I did was made a schedule with pictures so Clay has some consistency and knows what he needs to do before school. I didn't know if he would like it but he loves looking at the picture and saying what he needs to do next then crossing it off after we have done it. It makes the mornings run smooth.

Another tradition I started was while he's in school I made a giant chocolate chip oatmeal cookie for him. I was going to write 1st day of school on it with icing but didn't have time.

The last tradition is measuring him on this measuring board I made. So he can see how big he is now that he is a big boy going to school.(I made one for Ansley, too).

My little boy is growing up.

Clay looks like such a "big boy" standing on the bus. Such cute pics of him. I love the traditions you have started. Those will be special memories your children will always remember! (You will too!)
